0.4 - 2 full days or 3 mornings?

I'm currently on maternity leave, but when I return I will be covering PPA in Ks2 on a 0.4 contract. If I do 2 full days I will be teaching every lesson on those 2 days and paid to take my PPA at home. So I'm wondering whether to do three mornings instead, working til 1pm each day. This would mean I could take my own PPA in work. Wwyd?

I would do two days as you don't have the commute etc.

How long is the commute. What will it cost in childcare ?

Loandbeholdagain · 03/06/2018 10:08

If local and no massive childcare issues I would do three mornings.

I should have said, school is local and childcare costs are not an issue. I'm thinking 3 days at home during the week would be good, but then trying to plan with kids around won't be easy, hence the idea of having ppa at work

Ok, so do you think you could get all your planning and assessments done within the three mornings ? Then as childcare and commute not an issue then maybe go for that option. It is a nightmare trying to plan with dc under your feet

Would you actually leave at 1 though? I ditched mornings for 3 full days because I inevitably got dragged into staying for something or another

I work mornings and love it. I love that DD is only in nursery for a couple of hours and we can do nice things in the afternoon. I finish at midday and have to leave then to collect from nursery so can't stay any later!

I’ve been working three full days and I’m switching to four shorter days from September as it’s just too hectic and busy, very early mornings plus late evenings. I’d say do the mornings and keep everything in school (as much as possible) (or maybe pay for two hours childcare or whatever on a third day so you can actually get your PPA done at home!)

SalveGrumio · 03/06/2018 21:06

If it's a local authority school they can't make you take your ppa time at home. Terms and conditions state that it must take place during 'normal timetabled teaching time'. So if you want 2 full days with ppa time at school then you should tell them.

GlueSticks · 04/06/2018 23:39

Surely 0.4 is two full days including PPA time. So if you were teaching the whole two days you'd need to be paid more than 0.4 to account for the PPA on the third day.

HariboFrenzy · 05/06/2018 07:47

Salve I didn't know that!

Gluesticks you are right, and they will probably ask me to claim the extra every week as supply Sad
