Mumsnet is always the source of finding such stuff out, so this week's query...

How many of your schools have a staff wellbeing policy? (whether applied or not!)

Is there anything your school does actively to address or support the wellbeing of staff? How does your school know how staff feel?

I see from MN that there are so many miserable teachers trudging on/ powering through, or giving up . Lots of lip service paid to wellbeing but very little action from SLT/ government .

The school I am a governor at has an excellent policy to be fair. And very supportive governors who looked at the impact of the wording and policies very carefully .

Not the case in the school I work at.

That's impressive to achieve that in a large school!

Food for thought.

I like the birthday thing and just the general niceness swapping.

The birthday thing was a lovely surprise and comes with a generic message but appreciated by everyone.

Not everyone has chosen to take part in the wellbeing buddy idea, but the majority I think. Helps to create links across the school and really does make you feel better.

All small, simple and cheap. Works well currently.

I don’t know the details, neither does my friend but it looks like yr will be left teacherless as the yr 6 teacher will be with her new class .

MsJaneAusten · 06/05/2018 15:15

Reception teacher will probably take the Year 6s?

Socrates73 · 06/05/2018 16:52

Year 6 are busy doing plays, leavers assemblies and trips to secondary school, in my experience non teaching SMT and Hlta's supervise the class but very little actual teaching takes place then.

Mayra1367 · 06/05/2018 17:06

Reception teacher will be teaching the new intake who apparently are being asked to start in July

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 06/05/2018 18:54

If my DS had started YR in the July he would still have been 3! No way would I have agreed to that!

Perhaps it will be optional settling in sessions rather than actually starting school full time?

Ilove, although all that sounds nicey nicey I really think schools need to think bigger ( not really criticism of your place, more of mine)
My wellbeing would be massively imporved by a better policy on extreme behaviour management, by a reduction in pointless meetings where all 5e information could be contained in an email ( thinking whole staff meetings here, faculty ones tend to be more useful)
Reduction in assessment and data entry ( and therefore having to justify our testing policy to nearly every parent at nearly every parents eve)

Another governor here.

My school has a big focus on staff well-being and there is a subcommittee of the governing body that reports to the health and safety committee. There are members of staff on the subcommittee and their input is very much appreciated. The whole staff completes a wellbeing questionnaire twice a year and we get some very frank answeres!
SLT / Governing Body do what they can to address the issues raised, we can't fix evry issue but we do our best to take staff feedback on board.
There is also a Magic Monday draw for all staff, everyone is entered except those who won the previous week. The main prize is a reserved parking space close to the building for the week,(parking on site is limited) other prizes include chips on friday, 10 mins extra break etc. It's a bit of fun but seems to work!!!
