Contract 2 days -Eligible for 30 hours free child care for 3 year old?

My little one will turn 3 later this year. I work 2 days as a teacher. Apparently a teacher is only down as working a 7.5 day!!!!! I work at least 20_+ hours a week.

The criteria for 30hours free child care from the age of 3 is :
Earn or expect to earn the equivalent of 16 hours pay at National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage over the next three months.
For 25 years old and over this is £120 a week (in 2017)
For parents under 25 years old this is £112.80 a week (in 2017)

Does anyone else work 2 days as a teacher (15 hours) and qualify?? I was told that if you are not on minimum wage then you will qualify but this looks like I am an hour short!

I think you’re ok as you earn over £120 per week.

LouiseHumphreys81 · 12/04/2018 09:09

Yes it's done on earnings. I work 14 hrs per week but as I earn over £120 per week i've qualified no problem.

It’s because you’re presumably term time, so it averages out as less.

But agree, if you earn more than £120 per (averaged) you’ll be fine

monkeysox · 13/04/2018 07:29

They don't average the number of hours. When it used to be tax credits years ago they asked number of working hours in a standard week.

purplemunkey · 13/04/2018 07:32

But it's on earnings not hours... do you earn more than £120 a week?

Ohhgreat · 13/04/2018 07:35

Technical point - unless you are not under Burgundy book, a teacher works 6.5 hours a day.

twinnywinny14 · 13/04/2018 07:35

You have to earn the equivalent to 16hrs not work 16hrs, so as others have said if you earn at least that then you should be able to qualify. Use the checker in childcare choices website to be sure x

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 13/04/2018 07:39

Yes agreed it you earn what you would on minimum wage working 16 hours you qualify so you're OK OP.

It does seem a bit unfair for people actually on minimum wage working the same amount of hours as you who won't get this though even though they need it more because paying for childcare on a low wage is no joke.
