I've name changed for this as I can't risk it coming back to me. I'll also need to be a bit vague on the details - I don't mean to drip feed but can't publicly discuss everything.
I'm currently on maternity leave but my school is going through a restructure. When I go back I'll have lost my TLR and although my pay is protected I won't have my role and I'll be back to being a classroom teacher.
I've been getting gradually less and less happy at this school after being there for some time and wouldn't be against leaving - this latest development has pushed me even further towards going. I know if I hand in my notice before October half term I'll have to repay my maternity leave - I don't think it's an option but if we could find the money, is this a really shitty thing to do? Is there an etiquette around it?
Similarly, there may be a possibility I may be able to negotiate a release from my contract (so the school don't have to pay my TLR whilst paying someone else to do what is effectively my job). If I was able to do this but applied for other jobs before approaching the school, would I be landing myself in it, assuming a new school would contact my old school for references etc?
My role & subject is fairly few and far between, so if I don't get a new job for September I will likely need to stay at my current school for another year and look for next September. There have been big changes in leadership so I don't know how happy I'll be going back.
I'm really unsure on what to do and would appreciate some advice.
