Has anyone here worked 2 days in one school and 3 days in another?

I went part time after Mat leave and am now in need of more days because our landlord suddenly hiked our rent up by 10%
A job has come up nearby and I'm thinking of asking whether they'd be willing for me to do this.
Thank you 😊

I have, yes, but I was on a fixed term contract for the three days and did regular supply for two at the other. I guess it depends on the schools and your circumstances. One school may feel hard done by if there was, for example, an in service day they expected you to attend that fell on the other school's day (if you see what I mean!) I would chat it through with your current employer and see what they say. They may well rustle some extra days up or give you some supply? I would also chat to your union as they could advise you on your legal position and what to look for in your contracts.

I have worked 1 day at one school and 2.5 in another. There were pros and cons but I now just work in one school. At one point I was doing regular days in three different schools - all on different pay scales so my pay slip was interesting!

I haven't but have a friend who had been since Sept and it seems to be working ok..

I know someone who did but she found it unmanageable. I suppose it depends on additional pressures, but she spent all of her non-working days planning, dealt with 2 different data and reporting systems, found things like parents' evenings impossible to manage and was always tired.

I don't want to be negative, but it's important to know some of the potential pitfalls.

Yes it's tricky. i suspected it may get complicated not to mention tiring.
The school I went part time in may not have any more days for me because it's small but I am SO very happy there and love it.
If I leave theres a real risk I will never find such a wonderful work place again but I need money!
I may look into childminding from home Mon-Weds.
Thanks all.

Could you look at supply on the other three days. Whilst it might not be as regular you don’t have the paperwork and the pay would be better than childminding.

Munxx · 01/04/2018 20:41

Are you primary or secondary? If primary could you do the non class contact time for the second school at all? Just an option perhaps?

Goodenoughparent101 · 01/04/2018 21:26

Thank you. I can't gamble on supply because I'd have to pay a childminder so it would be really difficult if I didn't get any work come in.

I had a similar set up to lorisparkle for a while, and it was OK, but I had one full day off a week, not sure I could have coped with it otherwise, but you know your limits so it may be possible.

I think it depends a bit on the job roles. I am a HoD in two schools and do a 3/2 split. Systems similar but little things were a p.i.a in tbe new school...who does what admin wise, school day timings and things like parents' evenings in one school can fall on another school's day.

Supply is a gamble but you might be surprised at how quickly it can throw up regular work for you eg. A 2 afternoon a week PPA job for a year.

You should also let your current school know you are available - most will drop the unknown supply in favour of someone they know.

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 04/04/2018 16:34

Yes I recently did that- it was hard work and involved lots of juggling and careful planning. One school was very accommodating- the other wasn't!
