I had a thread a few weeks ago about how I was struggling with workload and admin since coming back from maternity leave (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_staffroom/3142601-Should-I-leave-teaching here in case you're interested). Since half term I have been doing agency supply work and I've been working pretty much every day but much shorter hours without the planning and admin. But I have found that I really miss the stability of working in one school and getting to know one set of colleagues and children.
I applied for an SEN and EAL teacher post at a secondary school and I have now been asked in for an interview. Obviously I haven't been offered the job, but to be honest I'm a little surprised to even be offered an interview. When I first started teaching I planned to eventually become a SENCO but various things got in the way and I never did it. I feel like this job would be a step back in that direction. The job description says it would be working with small groups to support them in English and maths. The school sounds lovely and has a good reputation locally and the commute would be manageable but I'm worried going to a secondary school will be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire in terms of workload.
I would really appreciate any advise from anyone who has done this before. I can be in work from 7.30am - 5pm but if I do those hours 5 days a week then I can't bring work home evenings and weekends. Does that sound like a realistic amount of time or do I need to look for a part time post? I've heard that SEND roles automatically come with significantly more admin, is that right? It seems like the only teachers I know who work the hours I'm available are only actually employed for 3 or 4 days teaching per week but getting a part time teaching position in primary in my area is basically impossible.
