Adult learning tutor

I left classroom teaching five years ago and now work for county teaching children who are out of school for a variety of medical and non - medical reasons. I love my work and the hourly rate is excellent (zero hours contract, though) but keep thinking I'd like to try my hand as any adult learning tutor, alongside my work with children. I could offer maths and a vocational subject. Has anyone here done this? Principal drawback I can see is the comparative poor pay - any others I should be aware of? What size classes might I expect?

Thanks in advance.

Hi I work in adult learning.

Can you offer GCSE maths or FS maths?
Are you prepared to teach evenings?
Average class size would be18 at start, dropping to about 12 by the end of the course.

Hope this helps....

Thanks for that Chottie. Yes, I could offer either of those courses, but couldn't work evenings due to other commitments. Class sizes sound like hard work for the quoted £20-24 an hour I've seen quoted to include preparation, travel and marking. Hope you've got a better deal!

I'm an Adult Learning tutor and that is the going rate. It's absolutely shocking pay and a lot of planning, but the work is really enjoyable. I'd like to do what you do but jobs never come up!
