When, how and who did you tell about your pregnancy

I'm currently 10 and a bit weeks with my first. I am planning to make an appointment with the head and then my heads of department, but only when I've had my 12-week scan. Does that sound reasonable? I'm a bit nervous about it but I know they'll be happy for me (if stressing out about next year on the inside). So yes, positive stories about telling school about your pregnancy also very welcomeSmile

That sounds perfect if you are comfortable with it.

I told one senior colleague at 8 weeks as I felt awful and needed someone to know to help me out a bit.

I then told senior staff and my immediate line manager as well as those I manage after the 12 week scan. It ended up everyone knew as I had a slapped cheek scare and was absent from school for a few weeks.

Forgot to mention that my best friend, who teaches in a different department, knows already - couldn't keep it to myself when she sent me a picture of her positive testSmile We're due within a week of each other. Trying to plan telling the head strategically so he doesn't faintWink

1st pregnancy: I was on sick leave and found out I was pregnant. i never 'announced' it on FB but a comment was picked up by a colleague at work. When I returned a week later, a few people knew about it (literally 10% of the staff) and the HT got wind of it. I hadn't even signed in when she demanded that I speak with her in her office where she berated me for telling people about my pregnancy before her! Cue emotional hormone overload and I ended up in tears in the staffroom. A week of avoiding her and she asked me into her office again. I can't remember what was said but I reminded her that I was not obliged to tell her until my 25th week and that I had NOT told anyone but ONE person had made a lucky guess from a FB comment and spread the gossip. Hence why 7 years later I am not friends with colleagues on FB!

2nd pregnancy: Christ! I told the witch the day after I tested! Didn't want to feel the wrath again. Pointless exercise really. She decided to make my life a living hell for the next three years.

Hard to believe that I actually LIKED her before she turned mean and nasty. Nowadays I stay out of her way. The less she sees of me the less likely she is to think of more ways to get rid of me!

Just realised, mine is quite negative!

Ignore me!

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 05/03/2018 21:54

Everyone else left it until they were 12 weeks. It's a personal decision. No right or wrong answer.

Good luck. I am sure you have a supportive and caring SLT.

(I do now!)

@bangingmyheadoffabrickwall don't worry - nothing is going to change the fact that I'm pregnant (I hope!!!) so I'm going to have to tell them one way or anotherSmile my SLT are very supportive indeed. Head sang the praises of the last person to go on maternity and she'd barely been there a year when her leave started! Plus almost all of SLT have children. Not too worriedSmile

Don't ever leave! Sounds like you have a lovely and supportive SLT!

I have no intention of going anywhere anytime soon :)

Best friend, who is also PG with similar due date, told the head today and he even offered to go with her when she told her line manager, as she was nervous about it :)

My turn in a couple of weeks hopefully!

I think that sounds great.

I'm on SLT, I told my Head very early on as I developed HG and needed a fair amount of time off. I told other people after the 12 week scan, although hardly anyone was surprised.

I told my best friend who happened to be 2nd in dept literally the day I found out, then the hod a couple of days later. I only told my hod because he was allocating classes for the following year and I didn't want any exam classes (as we wouldn't know if we could get a subject specialist to cover till well after classes needed to be allocated), so he needed a reason. I didn't officially tell the head until after 12 weeks, but I think she'd guessed due to the timetabling, as obviously I would normally have exam classes.
