PGCE Applications for September 2018

After the last thread went a bit off course and ended up dying a death, I thought that it would be nice to see where we are with our applications and to make this the go-to thread if anybody wants any help, support or just general chit-chat about their PGCE Applications for September 2018.

I am currently waiting to hear back from my UCAS application. I applied to the SCITT programmes at two local schools to do a PGCE in secondary Computer Science.

My skills tests are booked for 1 February 2018 and I am currently waiting for Amazon to deliver some books to help me prepare for the tests.

I am really looking forward to hearing how you are all getting on with your applications.

Is he striking Sofabitch? I'm not sure if someone striking would mean they wouldn't write a reference- but it might mean he is ignoring emails or it might have got missed. Anyway, hopefully he'll respond soon!

I've submitted my first SKE assignment- feeling a bit nervous about it, but there is a chance to redo if you fail. I basically felt like I just wanted to submit my first assignment, and then rework it if it wasn't good enough, rather than spending hours on something if I was barking up totally the wrong tree. I think it's enough to pass, but it's hard to know!

Changebagsandgladrags · 10/03/2018 20:28

I've had my first assignment back and the feedback was really good. I feel the effort I put in was worth it. Now working on the second.

Lots of uni tutors are on strike and it's playing havoc with UCAS applications.

Sofabitch · 10/03/2018 22:52

No he isn't striking. It's has still only just been over a week. I'm just impatient.

LadyLance · 12/03/2018 17:41

Well done Changebags

I hope you hear something soon sofabitch waiting on things you can't control is the worst!

PersianCatLady · 13/03/2018 10:02

Just think, in six months time we will be training to teachers!!!

This thread is so wonderful with all of its good news and especially seeing how people are progressing from applications to interviews and then to SKE courses and the like.

Silver lining sofabitch when you do submit your ucas application it’ll only cost you £1 Smile

WildFeralLife · 13/03/2018 10:27

It’s so exciting persian although i’m having doubts about my choice of scitt and wondering whether Inshould have gone down the uni led route instead Confused

LadyLance · 13/03/2018 15:42

It is definitely exciting. In six months I'll be doing my two week primary school placement! It being so close makes me feel nervous!

Changebagsandgladrags · 13/03/2018 22:41

Yikes six months and I still have two sciences to get through!

LadyLance · 15/03/2018 18:07

Had a few days off for a holiday- need to catch up with my SKE over the weekend.

I got an email today from UCAS saying they are refunding £23 as the application fee is now only £1, which is a nice gesture.

QuantumPixies · 16/03/2018 00:05

I got the refund email too. With the skills tests refund that’s enough for a smart new bag/pair of shoes for interviews!

I’m doing my skills tests next week and have started practising today. Still no news from the other two providers but they’re both school based providers so I guess they’ll want me observe me with their pupils. Maybe that takes longer (or I’m just impatient!).

LadyLance · 16/03/2018 13:31

It's a nice little bonus to get the refund definitely!

Good luck for your skills tests Quantum Pixie When I was waiting for interviews, one uni responded very quickly giving me much more notice, as they like to interview secondary teachers in subject based groups. The other two interviews were mixed, and I only got invited a week in advance to each one. I hope you hear something soon, and good luck!

Just got the results from my first SKE assignment. I passed and the tutor said he found my presentation very interesting- while still giving me targets for next time. That was a real confidence boost!

Daffodillia · 16/03/2018 13:34

I passed my numeracy and literacy test this morning! So relieved as I was dreading the numeracy one!

Changebagsandgladrags · 16/03/2018 14:27

Congratulations. I also passed both of mine this morning!

Now onto driving test...

Daffodillia · 16/03/2018 15:06

Brilliant change well done!

Good luck with driving test

LadyLance · 16/03/2018 17:50

Congrats both of you, well done!

Good luck with the driving test, change

Changebagsandgladrags · 17/03/2018 12:07

I'm deciding whether to apply for a scholarship. The extra support and networking is very appealing. It could really aid my future students.

But part of me is done with tests, interviews etc.

LadyLance · 17/03/2018 13:05

The scholarship is £2000 more than the bursary, right? Could you persuade yourself that you're being paid £2000 for the extra tests and interviews? That might make them seem like less of a chore?

Changebagsandgladrags · 17/03/2018 20:30

I think I am still getting over the trauma of my skills tests yesterday.

The test centre was a fair way out of my nearest city (which I'm not that familiar with). No chance to check out the location in advance. It was pissing it down with rain. I got hopelessly lost. Google maps gave up the ghost. I eventual found it in time due to help from 1,427 members of the public who I encountered along the way. At the centre I was so stressed that I didn't see the notice about not being allowed to go to the loo after booking in.

However, I think the stress and the idea of having to go back there focussed my mind Grin.

On the way back to the station I had to retrace my steps so I could thank all the people for the directions.

Once I have forgotten about it, maybe I'll be ready for more testing. You know, a bit like how you forget about childbirth

Daffodillia · 18/03/2018 07:33

Aw change that does sound eventful, and certainly not what you need before a test! Still no need to worry now Grin

QuantumPixies · 18/03/2018 13:20

Congrats on the test success everyone. Mine are tomorrow and although I know they should be fine, I’m a bit nervous. I’m also fairly worried about getting lost! change your experience sounds awful.

Changebagsandgladrags · 18/03/2018 15:47

Good luck!

If you're going to Leeds I now know how to get there Grin

QuantumPixies · 19/03/2018 09:12

I’ve just had an email to say the tests are cancelled due to snow. I’m really annoyed-it isn’t even that snowy here. All the schools are open, even rural ones. I’ve had to reschedule for nearly a month away because there are no appointments before, which is after my interview and I was really hoping to have them done when I went.

Not happy!

Changebagsandgladrags · 19/03/2018 09:17

Oh what a pile of pants.

If it helps, my tests were after my interviews.

QuantumPixies · 19/03/2018 09:21

Thanks change. I was all ready to go, I’ve done all the tests and was in the zone. Never mind, I’ll pass them in a month. I’ll get dh to get something nice on the way home from work.

I’ve got to find a piece of research to talk about at my PGCE interview. I’ll spend some time doing that instead.
