Any one done the course or starting, any advice on what to expect would be most appreciated

I’m doing it at the moment. I’d say it depends on your previous experience as to how you’d find it. I’m in my mid 40s, worked in the City before dc and have a post grad degree. Academically, I find the work very easy, though there is a good couple of hours of it a week. I do 10hours placement at a school over two days. I really enjoy that also.

Some fellow students have completed GCSEs and find the work more challenging. Some who have been out of education for a long time are also taking some time to come to grips with it. That said, the tutor is taking it slow to ease everyone into it.

Hi thanks for that, I am of a similar age and have done a lot of work with children on a voluntary basis, I have been in a job for 20 years which I have not enjoyed so have taken the plunge resigned and going to start the course and placement in January, husband has very good job so I am a lucky lady, is there much homework and what are the observations like.
Thanks for taking the time to respond

I haven’t had the observation yet. My course is over a year, so I get a good 6 months in my placement before we are observed. The amount of homework surprised me, but I answer questions in essay-type form and I could make it easier on myself, except that answering like that is actually easier for me! I’d say a couple of hours a week, however, the tutor said that she was easing us into it. It’s all very doable though, so I wouldn’t worry to much.

While the coursework is common sense, it has been interesting to see it through a more systemic framework, if that makes sense. In fact, during my dc EHCP review, I was arguing about my dd development in a more logical fashion along the lines I’d learnt in class the week before!
