No proper farewell

I have just had my last day at my current school after 20 years there as a teacher & parent.I handed my notice in the summer, so plenty of notice.
Parents and children have only been told today so there has been no official leaving event or thank you notes as teachers normally have. I don't want presents- just a verbal thank you or little note written by the children as I would do for other teachers. I have worked so hard at that school. The Head teacher (quite new) hasn't even bothered to walk over and say goodbye personally. I feel so upset.

It's a large private school. Immediate colleagues are sad to see me go (although still didn't get their children to make a farewell card). It's such an unhappy place, everyone is terrified for their jobs so I am best off out of there. Other people have been treated appalling and managed out in a very cut throat way. I chose to go so think they took this as a personal affront.

That is awful..in any job after 20 years.

My son would need longer notice to deal with his class teacher leaving.

it all seems very short sighted.

We had a teacher leave after half a term. the speed of leaving and lack of notice only made parents more suspicious and chat about the whole cloak and dagger stuff.

I wish you well OP where ever you are moving to.

That is dreadful and it sounds like you have made the right decision. Hopefully the new school will appreciate you. Good luck.

I am so sorry this has happened. You are right though, it gives proof that it’s time to go.
