Sickness

I have been a full time primary teacher for 8 years and I'm in my 40's. I also have children of my own. I never ever had a day off sick in my previous careers, yet in teaching I barely make a half term without genuinely being ill - sickness bugs, tonsillitis, migraines etc. Is it the juggling the hectic full-on world of teaching and a family (and I am SLT) or am I just pathetic?

My daughter is also a primary teacher teaching year one and she's the same. I put it down to working in close proximity to young children. They are still building their immune systems and maybe haven't mastered catching sneezes and washing hands etc and also don't really respect personal space. The classroom is a hotbed of germs!

Some of it will be down to tirednessand some down to kiddie germs. Never put your hands near your face, definitely don't eat without washing with hot water and soap first and try to get enough rest.
