I've been asked to attend an interview . I need to prepare a high quality text to read to a group of year2 children. I haven't got any idea what to choose. Any suggestions?
They also mentioned a task. Anyone knows what to expect?
Thank you

Do you need to read a book then plan an activity around it?
How long do you have and with how many children?
Tasks might be around basic numeracy and literacy.

Thank you for your reply. I was sent an email asking to prepare a high quality text whatever that means. It needs to last around 10 mins.
This is my first interview in 10 years and I'm feeling nervous.

I would choose a humorous poem - something that shows you can read clearly, enthusiastically and with passion (thinking about facial expressions etc, and something that aids purposeful timing so the children have a chance to have a giggle etc). Depending on what you choose, you could ask children to stand up and do actions etc. It depends how much time you've been allocated, as you could choose to read a short story (like Julia Donaldson) or even an extract from a longer novel (The Twits or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for example) . Good luck x

Thank you. That's very helpful. Thought of Roald Dahl's books as it's his day on Wednesday as far as I'm aware.

Google year 2 book list and you'll find some perfect suggestions. I'd choose one which has short stories or poems. Then google year 2 literacy plans/activities and it'll give you a clue as to what the children should be working towards. This will help you to know what discussions you could have with the children. Good luck!

www.poemhunter.com/poem/chocolate-cake/

^ possibility? I like Michael Rosen (bear hunt fame)
Follow up with can they think of a time when they did something they shouldn't have? What happened? How did they feel?
Or discussion of who felt sorry for the boy and who didn't/what he did wrong/why was it wrong/ was he good to own up/what would have happened had he not (mum knew anyway, tell-tale stain etc)
Language - what sounds are heard in the poem. What animal is the boy compared with?

I am secondary trained and not English specialist so apologies if this is unsuitable but it might work well at that age. Good Luck!

"A task" may be something you are asked to write, to check the standard of applicants' spelling and grammar, rather than a task for the children to do. Check the wording of your letter and ring to ask if it's not clear.
