How to work out salary for Cover supervisor job

BonnesVacances · 09/08/2017 18:54

I've seen a job advertised for a cover supervisor. It says the hours are "8.30 a.m. – 3.00 p.m. approximately 27 hours per week term time only"

How do I pro rata the annual salary please so I can work out what I'd get monthly before tax?

Thanks.

I'd assume you'd do 39 of 52 weeks

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the weekly hours were pro-rated as well as the weeks. And if there should be 4 weeks added for paid holiday?

It's usually 4 weeks paid holiday on term time, so a total of 42 or 43 weeks. (some cover supervisors I know do just pupil weeks, others also do the inset days.

So pro rata would be. salary / 52 42 or 43 / 35 (assuming 35 is full time - usual for local authority, can be more for academies) 27

There's a couple of factors to consider

  • LAs work on different periods of time for holiday pay so some work on 46 weeks, others on 42 weeks etc
  • LAs also work on different FTE hours so some consider 35 to be full time and others consider 37.5 to be full time

You probably are paid for 39 weeks plus 5 weeks holiday , then divide that figure by 12.

That figure then needs to be ÷35 (to get your hourly rate) then × by 27.

I think that's correct.

Why not ring up and ask what the salary is?

BubblesBuddy · 10/08/2017 16:39

I would ring. You would be guessing about holiday pay and whether you are needed for inset days. The HR dept will have the relevant info.

Ft is 37h out of London, 36 in London

As a rough working out- it is about 75% of the FTE.
I do wish they would put the actual salary on adverts though!

BonnesVacances · 13/08/2017 17:01

Thanks. It says that it would consider part time so assumed that 27 hours per week was deemed full time for purposes of the salary and the pro rata was to take account of it being term time only.

The salary gets lower each time I work it out! I would call and ask but I don't think there's anyone there atm. Grin

If there's an email address, do email them. I've been working on days that have been raining either in the office or at home, but our reception staff are off all summer.
