New school, new schemes to follow

I'm starting a new school in September and they use Read, Write Inc across the whole school for teaching English.

I've heard of this scheme but never used it and can't get into my new school until the last week of the holiday. Googling brings up prices and training courses. Can anyone give me an overview of how it works/how it's structured? I'd be really grateful for the heads up! I'll be teaching Yr5 3.5 days a week but not sure what my class teaching timetable looks like yet Confused

As far as i know year 5 won't be using it, my school only used it in ks1 as it's a phonics based learning.

Oh ok. Makes me wonder how they're using it across the school then! This could make planning over the summer... interesting...

RWI Do sell a KS2 scheme. If it is the same one I have used its brilliant because it sets out the lessons, the plans and the texts you need to use. Search Ebay for RWI Lit & Lang. The Y5 one is orange. You can buy the teachers book and text quite cheap but the CD is over £100.

Phonics based learning should not stop in KS1 - unless schools don't plan to actually teach any spelling at all in KS2 and just send lists home.

This isn't just a phonics based things. I know RWI is best known for that but this is just plain and simple English being taught. I saw no direct connection to the RWI phonics.
