Surely I can't be the only one that feels this.

I am a TA. I am paid 15k a year to support children who refuse to accept my support, don't need my support, or are too academically limited to make use of my support.

There are 25 of us in my school

nearly half a million pound s year spent on nothing.

If children were made to behave, if children were in lessons leading towards appropriate qualification for their abilities, if children were encourages to work independently etc etc they would learn far more anyway, and all that could be done WITHOUT us.

Aren't you just saying you're crap at your job? Confused

user1497480444 · 25/06/2017 10:10

no, I'm saying the huge amounts of money spent in schools is often totally wasted, and if it was used properly in the right environment, there would be plenty.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 25/06/2017 10:15

I think every word you're saying is wrong

And I seriously doubt you're a TA

Pibplob · 25/06/2017 10:19

You are wrong and like a pp said - I doubt you are a TA.

Also, since when do TA's earn 15k a year????

user1483387154 · 25/06/2017 10:21

You really need a new job if you are failing the children like this.

Barrytheunicorn · 25/06/2017 10:21

Really?

I seriously doubt there are 25ta's in your school that aren't needed!

user1497480444 · 25/06/2017 10:22

what is wrong about what I am saying. What is the point in me sitting with a girl in a GCSE maths lesson if she can't yet even add up the money in her pocket? Maybe she will get grade 1 because maybe you can do that if you don't read the questions but just wve your pencil around t random and hit a few of the correct multiple choice boxes.

So the school gets a grade

But whats the point?

What is the point of a good, knowledgeable, well prepared teacher standing up in front of a class who act as if she isn't there, and three quarters of them refuse to work? I've seen three TAs in a class like this the day before yesterday. What is the point? What a waste of money?

What is the point in me siting with a girl who can do the whole exercise alone, but wants somebody with here all the time to check everything with. She would do just as well if I wasn't there.

What is the point of any of this?

What do you possibly think I am saying that is wrong, laurieFairyCake?

So basically you are unable to adapt in order to be of any use to these children and the problem is the fact you are paid to do nothing Confused

How about you by off your arse and find a way to engage with the kids because I can't believe for a single second that 1-1 or extra support is a waste on any child.

user1497480444 · 25/06/2017 10:25

I've got a new job, thank fully, because I can't stand being in this situation where nothing I am asked to do any day has any value at all. I don't know if I will be replaced or not. I hope not, because as I've said in my exit interview, there is no point at all in this role.

I seriously doubt there are 25ta's in your school that aren't needed!

Most of the others don't seem to mind it, they just want to turn up and get paid, but if you press them, they agree privately that they are not doing anything educational.

Also, since when do TA's earn 15k a year????

what do you think we earn? What do your earn?

Right...

ShinyGirl · 25/06/2017 10:26

I'm a TA on quite a lot more money than that, but I'm worth every penny.

You sound rubbish at your job. You need to look for something else.

Gileswithachainsaw · 25/06/2017 10:26

And why the hell has a girl got to gcse level without being able to add up money in her pocket. Wtf have people been doing with for he past 10 years cos eitger they are all crap or no one's bothered to get the paperwork together and helped her find a place in a SN school or wherever she need a to be.

ShinyGirl · 25/06/2017 10:27

X post. Thank God.

What are you doing about it? You're not paid to sit next to her wringing her hands about how pointless it is. You're supposed to be helping her at the level she is working at.

chanel19 · 25/06/2017 10:27

I don't think you should masquerade as a TA here - but most importantly you sound like you may be doing it at work!

user1497480444 · 25/06/2017 10:28

So basically you are unable to adapt in order to be of any use to these children and the problem is the fact you are paid to do nothing confused

I am very highly qualified and experience, and very well able to adapt,

How about you by off your arse and find a way to engage with the kids because I can't believe for a single second that 1-1 or extra support is a waste on any child.

this is the problem, isn't it. Its blamed on the staff, when we are just the powerless ones at the bottom. How about the children take some responsibility for themselves, or the managers make children behave? Then we could be put to good use.

How on Earth has the country ended up in this state?

Wow. Your lack of empathy alone makes me think that the sooner you get out of teaching, the better. Good luck with your new role.

user1497480444 · 25/06/2017 10:31

yes, I agree, I would love to help her at the level she is at, but I'm not allowed to, I have to "help" her at GCSE level, which she is NOT at.

This is exactly the issue, the system is doing nothing for her, she is being totally let down, it is almost abusive. That is why I resigned, I am an education professional, I am not prepared to spend my time making super kids like her just feel crap about themselves in a lesson so far beyond them that they can learn nothing.

OP posts:
Faithless12 · 25/06/2017 10:34

No you are supposed to help her at her level. There are other exams she could be entered for, functional skills etc.

user1497480444 · 25/06/2017 10:34

Wow. Your lack of empathy alone makes me think that the sooner you get out of teaching, the better.

what lack of empathy. I have no lack of empathy. I am just totally frustrated at the futility of it all.

Schools are just burning money for nothing.

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 25/06/2017 10:34

But surely a child that behind had a ton of paperwork listing her needs and difficulties etc? There are surely plenty of things besides the gcse you are meant to be doing with her

insancerre · 25/06/2017 10:34

You sound like you don't like the children you are paid to help
That will be obvious to them and will stop them from being able to learn
You are the problem

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2017 10:34

I have to "help" her at GCSE level, which she is NOT at.

No you don't. Come on, be a little more proactive here. You can take her out of the lesson and do 1-1 work with her. There are entry level qualifications for maths that other schools enter their weakest students for.

muckypup73 · 25/06/2017 10:35

Was it not your job to get this girl ready for her G,c,s,e and to make sure she would be able to do it??? Sounds to me like you have not done your job properly.
