teacher car parking fees

I had an interview at a school today which charges staff for use of the car park. I want to withdraw because I hate the impression this gives of the attitude of the management. Is this a thing? do schools do this now?

The difference is that hospital car parks are generally run by external profit making agencies. A school charging its staff to park is basically docking their wages for its own benefit and looking to make money out of the teachers.

No idea if this is the case at the school OP mentions but it is worth pointing out that many schools built through the BSF programme on poorly negotiated PFI contracts do not own their building or the land on which it sits. It's possible that the parking charges are applied by the leaseholder.

I think this is very foolish of the school. Great schools run on goodwill to a very large degree. IME good headteachers do everything they can to make the staff in their school feel happy and valued and to lighten workload wherever possible. Ours is currently reviewing the marking policy With the aim of reducing workload. What the school pays out to provide tea, coffeee and milk and a nice lunch at Christmas and end of the year it more than gets back in clubs, interventions, revision classes etc.

I used to be a relief nurse and used my car to travel. There were plenty of hospitals in my county that weren't accessible on buses, at least not for the start and finish of nursing shifts. Many of the old Victorian hospitals were built on the outskirts of towns and some are still used to house the long-term and chronically ill. Not all hospitals are in urban areas. Fortunately, these hospitals tend not to charge for parking as they have lots of space, but you certainly needed a car to be able to work in them.
