Supply rates

Hi all

I am contemplating going on supply after October half term (I really want to go back in on a permanent contract, but I have a few other things on the go and I am enjoying my freedom at the moment.)

Anyway, I would prefer to hold out to be paid to scale (UPS3) as I'm core with a lot of experience and I'm an examiner too, but if I accept a short term post, is it usual to expect to be paid less?

Thanks for any advice.

Agencies tend to pay a flat rate, but if you negotiate with an individual school and aren't with an agency, you could get lucky.

I would think unlikely to get UPS3. When I do supply in school paid direct paid at M6 I have also done a bit with an agency and that's £100 a day.

I've had UPS3 for subject teaching as supply, but I think it might be unrealistic to expect it for cover supervisor style jobs where you are in any subject, or even very short term jobs.

Following as I thought supply was at a basic rate and I wouldn't even get top of main scale.

I didn't previously.

I was UPS3 as a permanent teacher. Now semi retired and doing occasional supply days. I work through an agency and earn £90 a day (South Wales). I remember the days when supply teachers were paid a daily rate commensurate with their experience (pre- agencies).
