Coming to the end of a fixed term part time 1 yr contract at school.

A month ago I enquired about the possibility of the contract being renewed as 2 teachers (one ft one pt) had handed in notice. The ft post had been advertised that day.
Head told me that mine and the leaving pt teacher contracts were possibly being merged to a .6 contract, subject to funding approval by govs and that it would be advertised either internally and externally and I would be welcome to apply.
Just before half term interviews took place and ft position was filled.
Today the head called me into his office, as I was passing, at the tail end of lunch, and told me my contract wasn't being renewed due to lack of funding and that the second best candidate from the full time interviews had been offered the merged pt position and accepted.
The job which had not been advertised. The job I'd been told I was welcome to apply for once advertised.
Am I wrong in feeling I've been f**ked over royally?

Excuse typos. Stealthy typing on phone next to sleeping toddler.

Yes, I do think you've been fucked over royally, and you're totally right to spend some time feeling angry/aggrieved BUT for whatever reason, they obviously don't want you there and don't appreciate the work you are doing there, so why would you want to stay?

They've done nothing illegal - headteachers can appoint whoever they want. Even if you had been invited to interview, it would all have been for show, and you wouldn't have got the job, because the HT doesn't want you there, so at least you've avoided the stress of a pointless interview.

Go find a school where the management actually like you and really appreciate the effort you put in!

I can fully understand you feeling angry/let down after working hard for them!

I was in a similar situation last year (slightly different to yours though) and was really messed about by the school. In the end, I got a job at the school I'm at now and it's the best thing I could have done as I love my new school. So, what I'm saying is, don't give up hope of finding somewhere better where you are valued Smile

I feel for you. I'm in a very similar situation at the moment and feel really f**d off. Worst thing is , there's nothing I can do but move on. Good luck with everything
