Reports and job share issues

I am a Primary school teacher who is working in a school with very low staff morale. Many teachers have unexpectedly walked out this year as a result, leaving a massive staff shortage. My official role was as a SEN specialist teacher but in May, I was told by the leadership team that I would have to take over a class because their teacher had quit without any notice. I now job share with a member of the leadership team.

It has been extremely difficult as I am the 5th teacher this class have had this year, so you can imagine their unsettled behaviour. I have tried my best with very little support. Over the half term, I have written some of the end of year reports with the help of other teachers who have covered them in the past. However, my name is being sent out on all reports.

Is it unreasonable to tell them that I am not comfortable for solely my name to be on these reports as the teacher? For one, it is untrue as it is a job share and I have not written every single report. I do not want parents to feel that I am responsible for comments I haven't written, especially when I barely know their children. Any advice on how to handle this situation would be helpful. The leadership team in my school are not very approachable and I am anxious about discussing this.

Wow, sounds awful. I think I'd be looking for a new job in September if it was me.
I think you should speak to someone on the leadership team. It could say something like 'teacher for summer term ' for example. Also though, the parents will know you've only taught them for a few weeks.

Thanks for your reply.

The parents are aware of the situation as a letter went out when I took over. However, they are under the impression that the teacher that quit is 'unwell' and will be back soon so the situation is a bit awkward. I feel that the school don't want to make it known that yet another teacher has walked out so they are being economical with the truth.

Luckily I am leaving at the end of this year for a better position so only need to get through the final term. I just don't want to be associated with reports I haven't written, for professional reasons. I live in a very small area where everyone knows each other and I don't want anything damaging my reputation.

If the content of the reports is factual then does it matter if you are being associated with them?

You can ask - or just do it yourself - for your name to be removed from any report you did not write.

In the jobshare reports I write, we put names of both teachers at the top of the report, and for the 'core' subjects, show by initial which of us teaches which subject.

Behind the scenes, we each write different bits, then read and edit each other's. But basically, it is sent out as joint work.
