Two Part-Time jobs?

Are there any teachers out there who work in more than one school? If so how do you manage Inset Days/Special events between the schools?

I have just got another job in addition to my current part time job, but the job offer came after the official resignation dates. I will have to work there until Christmas so will have to do both jobs (one is for 2 days, the other for 3). I don't know whether to resign now from the first job or wait until after the Summer holidays. I also feel anxious leaving the first job, in case the new job doesn't work out. Realistically long term it will be hard to juggle 2 jobs. What to do?

I'm not a teacher but I've just tried to work 2 part time jobs. Now the difference for me was I went from part time to full time (working 2jobs) at a difficult time for our family. As a result it frankly was disastrous. My DC were in irregular childcare and it was this that was the main issue as well as the demands from each employer on my days off. I was incredibly inflexible due to the demands of each job.

For us it didn't work well.

I have known a teacher do this and what she did was any inset days were worked at the school the day fell on.

Didn't explain that very well sorry

So she worked Mon Tues wed at school 1 any inset days there on Mon Tues wed were worked at school 1.
At school 2 she worked inset days that fell on Thurs and Fri

Hope that makes sense

It depends if both schools follow STPCD (i.e. Not academies) and what your contract and directed time in each school says. If they both do, then it should be no problem, as Burgundy Book regulations are very clear that part-time teachers should only work and attend INSET days and parents evenings on their working days.

However, most schools expect flexibility and a bit of give and take from part-timers, and assume you don't work on your 'off' days, so it could prove tricky.

Many academies (like the one I work for) expect more, so my directed time includes staff meetings on a day I don't work but I am expected to attend, and my contract and directed hours state lots of times that I am expected to be there on days I don't work (covering open evenings, parent meetings, Christmas Performances, discos etc). So... what sort of schools are they, and what does your directed time say?

And... some teaching contracts state that you can't take another job without the Head Teachers permission... my contract had that in it, and although I was ShockShockHmm, apparently it's legal. So check your contracts!

One is a private school, one a state. Current school contract states I have to attend the whole school meeting for I hour. I do sometimes have to go in for other things. New school have said they would be flexible if other school was as well.

I think maybe I should just resign from current school and ask if they would let me go at end of this term. If not then juggling for a term should just about be doable.

I did this before fully moving to school 2 FT.

I worked Mon, Tues, Wed in school 1 and any INSET days that fell on those days I did in that school.

I worked Thurs & Fri in school 2 I did in that school.

The two schools were different sectors (one middle deemed secondary and the other primary) so the INSET days were beneficial regardless. Due to SOR in our area my Head from school 1 was happy for me to work in school 2 to develop skills for when the middle schools closed down.
