Am I in trouble?

Went to a school event on Friday night. It was a dance fundraiser. Mixed with parents and teachers - no children present. I was feeling a bit dodgy all day but went out anyway. Had 2 glasses of wine and then spent the rest of the evening throwing up in the toilets. I was tipsy but not drunk but of course everyone puts it down to the fact I was drinking, however my kids have had sickness bug all week so pretty sure it is down to that. I still don't feel too great 2 days later. So embarrassed that now parents will clearly think I'm drunk. I wouldn't mind but I only had a second glass because the head bought it for me. I rang a friend and got her to pick me up so left without saying goodbye but just know that the rumour mill will be going into overdrive and I'm so embarrassed as I work really hard to maintain a professional persona. What do I do now? Ignore it and hope that in time people just forget it or defend myself with the fact that it was actually a sickness bug (which I'm not sure people believe!).

Will the parents have noticed? I've never been aware of where staff are during school socials. I'd notice a member of staff staggering around or appearing obviously drunk but wouldn't notice someone being unwell and going home. I'd ignore it and carry on as usual. If anyone asks you can tell them you had a bug - you can't effect whether they believe that or not.

Thank you for replying. I have no idea if anyone noticed because I was so ill. I'm just glad I made it into a cubicle and to the toilet! A couple of my colleagues have been sending me mocking texts so they clearly think I was drunk. I'm not bothered by them, more the parents. I've never ever been drunk enough to even get a hangover so I'm mortified.

I imagine the parents will have been too busy enjoying a night out to notice what staff were doing! If you were drunkenly dancing on tables or grabbing random parents to tell them you loved them then you would have a problem. This is just an unfortunate coincidence and should be treated as such.

I don't think they will have noticed. You may well have passed the sickness bug onto most of their children so it will be pretty obvious why you weren't well soon enough!?

Thank goodness you are all saying the same thing. I'm probably just overthinking it then. I'm such an introvert that the thought of being the centre of gossip kills me.

And yes it probably will go around the class like wildfire. Could do with a day off tomorrow myself but year 2 and SATs tomorrow so can't have a day off.

I would defo ignore it, or make it really clear that you're sick (bring in the tissues etc.) bringing it up will make it seem defensive imo.
