Have officially been banned in lessons now at our school. Had several end up on my desk on Friday. Now I understand why the kids love them. It is impossible to put them down!! I know they're supposed to help concentration but, I barely got anything done for constantly spinning it between my fingers (and nor did my poor colleagues due to the constant whirring). I'm hoping they'll get bored soon...

One kid told me he had SEN but 'had not yet been diagnosed'.

Some other talking and I heard one say 'Just pretend to be autistic' Hmm
Since I permanently confiscated one (love, shiny, titanium?) and told the boy he could go an make his case to the Head to get it back, and if the Head agreed, the Head could write me a note (which did not happen), have not seen another.

I work in a SS. One of my students bought one in this week. I asked to have a go. He looked like Shock.

I then said I'd ordered 2 for home with LED flashing lights. (My ds has asd). He laughed and asked if one was for me.

I said I'd thought I'd bring it in for my class to have a go (I've only 4 students!).

He was most impressed but I've not seen his since my interest WinkGrin

Why does 'design your own fidget spinner' come up as a hot download every time I visit twinkl. Surely no teacher is deluded enough to think this is a good idea?

Because some people are fools who are always looking for the next way to be cool and 'engaging'. I bet they also do mine craft lessons and tried to get Pokemon Go craze in too. Hmm

It smacks of 'I don't believe in the content I'm teaching you and have little faith in my own behaviour management because I need to be cool and relevant'.

Ooooh! that might be better than a board timer. I might dare to do it tomorrow.

MaisyPops · 21/05/2017 21:38

Oh lord. It's happened! Confused

That's just awful.

What about:

  1. Work out the angle in the fidget spinners
  2. How many quotaions can you recite in the spinning time
  3. Use the map coordinates to find the fidget spinner Mrs maisy has confiscated before she throws it into a volcano.
  4. Write a story from the perspective of a fidget spinner

I hope the sarcasm in this post is clear by the way.

Dd has dyspraxia and says they would just make her concentrate less. Not more!

elephantoverthehill · 22/05/2017 21:23

We voted as a staff tonight, complete ban. Today I saw some titanium ones in special cases brought in by y8s!

@elephantoverthehill

Yr9 are exactly who I said it too Grin the implication being that they are playing with baby toys ;)
