How can I use a smart TV/PC/IPad to replace an interactive white board?

Waves at any colleagues that recognise this post, a know a couple are on here.

We've just 'upgraded' our interactive white boards to smart TVs. And very smart they look too. Clear, bright and easy to see.

But no interactivity. You can't write directly on the screen so I'm looking for ways to get around that and still do the things I used to most use the interactive functions for.

We have plenty of apps, and it will switch between the computer and apple TV easily.

But I'm missing being able to write directly on the screen, particularly in maths teaching. I like being able to write over the top of word or pdf files to annotate work. I'd like to have some way of having a blank screen and to be able to draw (on the ipad or am considering some sort of wireless mouse tablet thing to be able to use something like paint on PC) and write. I also would like to be able to use a few things that only work from my PC (flash programmes like 'fraction maker that won't run on ipad as far as I'm aware) without being tethered to where the pc is.

Any ideas? For any of that?

TIA

You can't, or at least no one in my department has found a way yet.

Do you have an iPad? Notability can work as a "board" - you can either write/ type directly onto a blank document or import a PDF and write on that.

Rosie Grin

I'm feeling constrained not being able to write on the board anymore - but I think if I wrote on the TV screen with whiteboard pens it wouldn't go down very well.

I have an ipad. And am exploring how to use Explain everything. Will look into notability, thanks.

Also constrained by the fact that all apps are downloaded centrally by the boss, so not able to try things out for myself and decide if they are any good.

A chromecast on the tv and cast your ipad screen to it.

Apple TV all set up and I can cast to the screen no problem. And I'm getting used to explain everything, but it's just not the same as writing on the board directly.

We got the interactive version of what you have. Looks great and clear screen. But I hate it and so do the kids! It's far too small for a start and it's a total bitch to write on! Constantly jams, needs callibrating etc. The inability to write clearly is the most annoying thing. I've never used my normal whiteboard so much!

This is what I think is going to happen - it feels like I'm going backwards!

I was going to suggest Explain Everything, although my handwriting is nowhere near as good on it as on a whiteboard, I've never quite got round to trying a stylus though.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/05/2017 23:28

I've got a fine stylus from Amazon, v cheap. But I prefer to lean the side of my hand on the surface I'm writing on and if I do that then the ipad won't pick up the writing. Keeping my hand off the screen to let it recognise the stylus isn't comfy - or neat!

Practice is needed I think
