Foundation teachers - best play dough recipe

A bit cheeky as the play dough is for use at home but as s secondary teacher I have only made play dough for school once and it was rubbish!

I double up and use 2 mugs of water, 2 mugs of flour, I mug of salt. I also add 4 tablespoons of cooking oil, 6 teaspoons of cream of tartar and food colouring for colour. I heat it all up in a saucepan, stirring continuously on not too high a flame as it can burn. Once it has all come together and looks play dough like, I remove from the heat, turn out on a plate or chopping board, let it cool and knead. Once it has cooled down , store in a container or bag and it will keep fresh in the fridge for a while.
I know some do it in a microwave but I haven't ever made it this way.

Same recipe but use boiling water and you don't need to cook it in a pan. Add the colouring to the water for an even result.

This is great. Soft, lasts forever. You do need to put more water than you think though. It does all get absorbed.

2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar and 2 tsp cooking oil. 2 cups of boiling water.
Mix all dry ingredients then add the wet and food colouring.
If you keep it in a sealed container it will last a few weeks.
