Are you waiting for/overdue an Ofsted and were you a good/RI school?

The schools around here who are being inspected at the moment, all seem to be either RI or in special measures, OR they were Good/Outstanding from ages ago with an interim inspection.

I just wondered if Ofsted were still catching up with those schools which was making them run behind on the inspections of good schools?!

We are overdue!

My cousin's secondary school in greater London was outstanding last time and had Ofsted at the end of September.

A friend's primary school in Cambridgeshire was also outstanding last time and has had Ofsted this term (sorry can't remember exactly when).

Another friend's secondary in greater London was RI and had Ofsted this term too (can't remember date).

That's all I've heard of.

rollonthesummer · 07/11/2016 22:13

I'd be interested to know when the outstanding schools were last ofsteded!

I teach at an outstanding primary school, last judged to be outstanding by ofsted in 2007. We have since had an HMI visit though and have gone through quite a rigorous assessment to become a national teaching school.

calzone · 07/11/2016 23:21

I would love to ring Ofsted anonymously and tell them to come to my setting. 😨😨😨

Effic · 07/11/2016 23:31

Outstanding school done every 3 years like clock work as we "don't fit the profile" of an outstanding school so they have to come and check us out every 3 years in the dot. Last done 2015.

Good school - over a year overdue (last done in 2011) but came in September. Good again.

Good school in Oct 2013 (but coming out from RI) - inspected bang on 3 years last week. Outstanding this time.

Apparently I'm an outstanding leader in two school but a good in the other. The SENCo who also works in all three schools is similarly so.

And this makes sense to somebody I guess!

Effic · 07/11/2016 23:34

There are two outstanding schools in the same town though that haven't been inspected for 8 & 9 years! Despite both having a change of HT & one having falling results in this time. So not sure how the "risk assessment" and selection process works!

BrollyXmas · 11/11/2016 20:21

My dc's school was inspected this term. It was good in last inspection and got good again. I am disappointed as it's a school in a great area that achieves great results, but something is missing. The HT has been there forever and I don't believe he is able to achieve outstanding. I am unhappy with how he's leading the school and unsure what to do about it - any advice?

RustyBear · 11/11/2016 21:01

The school where I work was inspected January 2012, and then in June this year, so 4.5 years between the two - Good both times. This year's inspection was a one-day short inspection, which seems to be common for good schools now.

The 2012 inspection was at the beginning of the head's second term in office and this year's was in his last term before he left - to become an OFSTED inspector! In between, he also had an inspection at another school where he was covering for the head's maternity leave, so he had three inspections in 4.5 years - all useful experience for his new job!

leccybill · 11/11/2016 21:09

We were RI. They came after the 3 years and a week.

Now Good

I worked in a school in SM and HMI were in that after they virtually had their own mugs in the staffroom. Glad I'm not there anymore.

TheSnowFairy · 13/11/2016 19:18

Brolly if it's a secondary school with a large comprehensive intake, a 'Good' is not a bad mark, you know.

You can raise concerns with the governors if you feel you need to.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 13/11/2016 21:29

fourcorneredcircle - I think I may know that school too.

Op - we're a 'good' school, six months overdue. Data suggests we should now be 'outstanding'. I don't expect a visit any time soon.

Hepzibar · 15/11/2016 21:19

Wish I hadn't posted on this thread bad omen

Call yesterday and - they are in tomorrow!!

Pray for us

RustyBear · 15/11/2016 21:31

How come you got that much notice Hepzibar? We got the call at just before noon for next morning.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 15/11/2016 22:07

Good luck!

fruityb · 15/11/2016 22:12

We were good in 2011 and then we had our next one a year overdue in 2015. We had converted to academy and got a new head. We were then judged RI and have had HMI in a couple of times and are judged as taking appropriate action. I'm hoping they reinspect while I'm on maternity lol

Hepzibar · 16/11/2016 06:22

Bloody hell Rusty - that is short notice.

We always knew it would be 2 working days notice (but we're hoping for a Thursday call to come in on a Monday). Although at least this way our weekend hasn't been ruined.

fruityb · 16/11/2016 07:14

That was the same notice we got rusty. Though we weren't officially told till about two pm for a two day inspection

ticklemyonewhisker · 16/11/2016 07:27

I didn't think ofstedcame in on Mondays due to them not wanting people a whole weekend to plan.

fruityb · 16/11/2016 08:17

We would all hold our breath till lunchtime Wednesday and then we knew we had at least till the following Monday for it! Spent a whole year doing that, that level of anxiety isn't right is it!

fourcorneredcircle · 16/11/2016 12:45

ATruth yes, I think you probably do. We've both been on a few "local" threads. You probably "enjoy" the same obsession in what should be your catchment to wear bottle green as we do ;)

rollonthesummer · 17/11/2016 08:02

Bloody hell Rusty - that is short notice.

It's not though.

I was under the impression that Ofsted always phoned state schools in England by lunchtime one day and come in At 8am the next day-where are you, Hepzibar? Are you in FE?

OP posts:
Hepzibar · 17/11/2016 17:35

Yes FE.

We maintained our Good rating! Got the new at 4.30 today, will get the feedback in morning and official report within 4 weeks.

Wine tonight Grin

HopeClearwater · 23/11/2016 21:48

I've heard that the delays are being caused by the lack of inspector time since they cut their staff numbers - can anyone confirm this?

RustyBear · 23/11/2016 22:29

Well, I know of at least one new inspector this year - our HT turned to the Dark Side in September...

SusanTrinder · 23/11/2016 23:07

We're massively overdue. Good last time, doubt very much we'll stay there.
