Pros and cons of teaching

I'm thinking of retraining as a teacher - I'm 35 with two young children and wondering if this is stupid or a good idea.

Other option is to train as an Ed Psych but that would take a lot longer and would require me to move cities, which would obviously be difficult now.

I've been working in an education related role since I left uni but this has mostly been working 121 with clients that I largely only ever see the once. It has however given me a great deal of expertise in educational testing and working with children with SEN. (Sorry to be vague but I don't want to post anything too identifying.)

'when my dc are older and need me less'
I thought that, too. Only now they are preteen/teen they need me much more! Having trained and worked through their early childhood I am handing in my notice on Monday.

Yea I could go straight into EP training it's just that it a) would mean a long commute once or twice a week to the nearest university that runs the course and b) takes three years to complete. I'm also aware that the application process for the funded training is very competitive.

I am 5 years into teaching and my DH and I are thinking of starting a family, I have no idea how teachers with children manage, although many in my school do. I've got next to no life outside of school in term time, partly due to having to get work done and partly because I'm absolutely exhausted or using scraps of spare time fighting to keep on top of other day to day household tasks. However, if you need a job at the end of training you might do well to look into how in demand ed psychs are as I know the ones linked to our authority all had their hours cut fairly recently as there's just no money to pay them.
