Teachers - do you get paid to do after school clubs?

I'm secondary, no, we don't get paid. If we do a lunchtime club we get a free lunch for that day but after school gets nothing.

No. But we are expected to do one each - after school or lunch. Primary school.

Thanks. That's interesting. Does anyone know if teachers can be paid for after school clubs? I'm assuming not as they are already under contract at that time so technically being paid already?

I doubt that after school time is already paid under contract - directed time usually only includes after school meetings, so any time after school on a non-meeting day would be unpaid.

I'm sure you could be asked to be paid for after school clubs but I would expect that the money isn't there, unless it's a specific club to benefit pupil premium kids that PP funding could be used for.

No. I've never heard of a teacher being paid to run an afterschool club - nor all the District sports sides, nor county music groups etc.,etc.etc. Always voluntary.

One of my local primary schools decided that too many parents were using the after school clubs as free childcare rather than the kids actually being interested in attending. So they decided to start charging parents for them (unless the kids were on pupil premium) and paying the teachers to run them.

No (Primary) but most of the teacher run clubs are at lunchtime. The after school clubs are run by TAs and carry a charge, the TAs are paid for these clubs.

The only place I know of where staff are paid to do after school clubs is a private school where my friend works. They charge £5 per child and the staff take all the money!!! State sector- no payments...

No, but our TAs are paid until 4 daily and they run a lot of them.

Nope. The kids seem to think we are though. I'm paid to teach (and mark/plan) some lessons for the boarders but that's curriculum based and is an extension to our timetable (not optional). Many parents think we're paid.
It annoys me. Not that we're not paid but that some teachers sail through never doing any enrichment activities and get paid the same amount. Ho hum. Not going to be a martyr about it.

I can't believe teachers aren't paid for ASC!

Dd's (state) primary charges £5/hour for each ASC. There's a wide range of activities, always oversubscribed and parents are grateful for them. I hope that money is going to the teachers and not just to general school funds.

At our school teachers no, but TAs yes.

Million - it's interesting to hear your POV as a parent. It's very unusual for teachers to be paid for clubs. I dothing though, with the increased pressures on teachers, it's no longer realistic to expect them to run a weekly club.

No. There were strikes about it many years ago - late 1980s. I was a secondary music teacher then and gave up many any hours.

Primary now and not paid, but we all do one after school and one lunchtime club. We also have one lunch duty each per week when we eat with the children - we get a free school dinner but we don't have to eat it. Different day each week. So last Monday I had break duty, lunch duty, lunchtime club and after school club - with children from 8.45 to 4.30 without a break. On the plus side, my classroom is really near the staff loo!!

no in 9 out of 10 of the schools I am currently involved in. The last one pays an hourly rate for a maximum of three sessions, per teacher, per KS, every year. So, a maximum of 9 paid sessions. Staff probably do around 20-30 extra sessions each, often these are on Saturday, Sunday, Bank holiday, half term, etc.

The stipulations are quite strict, and the actual money is quite difficult and time consuming to get hold of
