maths books

Hi, I am applying for Primary PGCE to start next year. I've just read the training in your 40'a thread so am a bit concerned now as a single mum of 3, however I am convinced it's the right thing for us as a family.
Anyway, one of the providers I've applied to will consider offering me a Primary with Maths course as I really want to specialise in maths. I've looked on Amazon for text books to give me an idea. DD is in year 3 so I have some basic parental knowledge, but nothing in more detail.
Could anyone recommend a textbook for me to read before my interview so I sound like I know what I'm talking about?! Thanks :)

Maths for Mums and Dads was the one recommended when I was a mature student and the one that I always recommend to parents too.

Mathematics Explained for Primary Teachers by Derek Haylock - was my bible when I started teaching. Worth every penny, in my opinion. Maths for Mums & Dads is highly recommended too (I just haven't got round to reading my copy yet...)

Obviously make sure you look through the national curriculum too-so that you know what's covered in which year group.

My recommendation is White Rose Maths Hub (my best find of the year on Mumsnet) - sign up for free and the dropbox will have loads of great ideas. This year my text book of choice is Maths - No Problem (Singapore maths for UK). Have a look at some of the stuff Mike Askew has done too - have been to one of his training days and he was pretty down to earth yet inspiring.
