TA in reception......15 MINUTE LUNCH BREAK!

Took on a new job in reception with 4y olds (not office)

30 hours a week.

The way they have structured my day is

8.40-3.15 every day with a 15 minute unpaid break and a 15 minute unpaid lunch. 😱😱. I'm speechless. Never had that before.

I'm doing a lunch hour every day as well.

Does this seem the norm now?

Sounds pretty normal. My TA chooses to do lunch duty so she gets the same - 15 mins in the morning and 15 mins for lunch. Did you ask to cover lunches?

calzone · 31/08/2016 14:24

I didn't ask to cover lunches.

Presume then that I just leave at 3.15 and leave the teacher with 27 children to dismiss on her own.

Calzone - sadly it doesn't tend to work like that. I disagree with it too, but it is generally accepted that you gulp down a sandwich on the hop.

My LSAs used to leave at 3:15, but that was in secondary. I imagine the year you are attached to will dictate the ease with which you can extract yourself from the class??

Our early years assistants get 45 minutes for lunch, no morning or afternoon breaks. However, they do add up that time and get time off in lieu.

DesolateWaist · 02/09/2016 20:28

Hmmm we get 15 minutes at morning break and then an hour for lunch.

I'm going to ask to have my contract changed to 8.30-3.30pm with 2 X 15 minutes breaks.
