After school clubs

As part of my PM this year, I will be expected to run an after school club. I don't mind doing it but I have no idea what to do.

At my primary school, we have loads of sports clubs and lots of music clubs already.

Other than sport and music, what kind of clubs do you or your school run? Just looking for ideas please! 😁

Thanks for all these ideas, they are fab!

I like the idea of a parent child club but this is only my second year at the school.

Your right about needing clubs for non sporty kids.

I am assuming this is part of your directed time? Make sure it is.
Nobody in our school is required to do clubs, although some of us do.

Film club was by far my favourite but when I moved schools someone else already did that one. Grin

My children went to a Penpals club in KS2 primary.

The teacher had addresses for about 8 schools from around the world. They spent a few weeks drafting an introductory letter. This was written up in neat and posted to English speaking Penpals schools (USA, NZ).

Then each week they tried to translate parts of the draft into the language for one of the schools (French for a school in French Canada, German for German school, bits of Chinese etc). As each letter was written it was posted and then they worked on the next language.

As the weeks past, by the time they finished all introductory letters, they had started getting replies (usually multiple replies from all pupils in a class). So then the Penpals club continues as they write replies and develop into conversational letter writing.

The club is ongoing so that as club members leave and new ones draw, the same Penpals conversations continue just carried by different people.

Random, sorry but what do u mean by directed time? It contributing to wider school community I need to improve.

Fate, that is a fab idea. Might run it past the head.

1265 is the magic number. To be fair I've never come near to 1265 on the very occasional times I have counted. But it's always something to be aware of.

You cannot be "required" to run an after school club unless it counts as directed time - i.e. time for which you are paid.

I have never worked in a school where clubs are "required". I run drama club and school shows but it is entirely my own decision.
