This is such a depressing thread. I have worked in SEN and now in FE, and permanently lament the lack of pay equality between my current job and secondary schools (the difference is huge), even though I provide the same job, and same job description. Whereas education spending was ring fenced for secondaries and primaries, FEs have been slaughtered in terms of funding.

But whenever I consider moving back I read threads/articles about this and it makes me wonder if it would really be worth it.

Ah this whole thing makes me want to bury my head in my hands and weep.

My DD sits GCSEs this year, in the last year she's seen two drama teachers leave, her beloved form tutor leave on medical grounds and had a supply teacher come in until end of the year for a core subject. This is an outstanding school, and cannot speak highly enough of staff, yet the cracks are widening and seems a matter of time before things crumble.

I always wanted to teach, all through my secondary school years, inspired by my music and, sadly departed, maths teacher. Yet upon completing my degree in ~5 years I'm not sure I even want to dip a toe in the water.

Everything's inherently broken, from top-level down, and Morgan et al can't see the shit for the trees. Yet so many countries abroad have teachers that love their job, this thread alone has examples.

I have the utmost respect for what you all endure. I hope things get better. Sadly, hope is eroding. Thanks

I left in July after 11 years due to workload and bully of a Head. Been doing supply this year and every single school I go to has temporary teachers in some depts or year groups.
