I've been offered a job which I would like to accept, however they are offering 7 point below my current pay. The advertised job showed a scaled 12-16 point I'm currently on 18. I would be willing to accept the job on the highest scales of 16. My contract came through the and its states 12 points. I'm currently waiting on the HT to make a decision if they will offer me the higher points. Has anyone been in this situation? Do they always offer the lowest point?

Is this a management position? I don't recognise the points so I presume so. Have you signed /accepted the job?

No a TA position. I verbally agreed without, stupid on my behalf, discussing pay points. It basically makes a different of nearly £3k per year

Oh dear, it really is something you must sort at the time of being offered the job but you know that now. I hope you get what you want.

I expect they probably do always offer on the lowest point as they'd like to pay as little as possible. Can you evidence why you should get the highest point to help the HT decide?

You can't usually appoint someone on the highest point of the scale. In our LA you have to appoint 2 or 3 below the top of the scale. Don't know why but know it's what happens!

Accepting a post verbally is binding even without the contract. You'll have to hope the HT is sympathetic and the school not too cash strapped.
