Writing exemplifications

Have you seen them, published today? Utter madness. The examples of expected writing for Y6 are high level 4 and for Y2, level 3. There is no way that most of our children will achieve expected standards despite being well taught. Why on earth does your average 11 year old need to know the difference between a coordinating and a subordinating conjunction, and who really needs to be able to identify a modal verb or a determiner at that age? The powers that be have clearly only ever met articulate, middle class children and not your average inner city child. Awful. It's setting both children, and teachers, up to fail.

I hope my Head signs that letter! I really think we shouldn't be rolling over about this.

My Head doesn't work Fridays so I was quite scared when the office sent a call through to me yesterday morning from her...

Her message was essentially, "Draenor, I've looked through the writing exemplars and all the sample papers and I just want to tell you not to worry. The progress you're all making with these kids is unquestionable, so what will be will be." God I appreciated that.

We are in deep shit as a school with our massive EAL intake and huge amount of mid year transfers, and I've been sleeping horribly for the last month, but I feel like a bit of a weight is off my shoulders.

This is the worst I have ever felt about education. How DARE they do this to our kids?
