Am interested in starting some nurture groups/individual children after Christmas holidays, Can you tell me about your ones or any that have not worked. Have had some training but would definitely like more. Can do individual children or small groups.

Mixed ability intake of 168 girls in bristol school. We have had a nurture group for 3 years comprising a mix of low ability level 1's and 3's with others with specific problems e.g. ASD, behaviour plus some level 3's. We have up to 12 children and it only lasts for 1 year. Pupils have a classroom base in which they are taught eng, maths, humanities with science taught in science labs. They do only 1 foreign lang instead of 2 and have extra maths, sci and eng. Running through all lessons are social skills and language development. The rest of their subjects are taught in mixed ability full size classes and they register have tutor time with their tutor group.

We are starting one in September for 3 children initially. They will be on a highly differentiated curriculum. The plan is for them to register with their class in the morning, do literacy, numeracy etc. in their nurture group room in a highly interactive way, with lots of opportunities for social skills development. It is hoped that the children will spend time every afternoon in their own classroom and that gradually, over time, they will spend more time in the classroom and less in the nurture room.

Are you primary or secondary?

as a parent of difficult behaviour DC in primary ... more of a lunch time thing than anything else, small groups encouraged to play with each other.

In my present top-of-the-league-table school, I suspect their only real interest is in looking as if they're doing something for the PupilPremium lot, and thus get the Ofsted results up.
That said, the lady in charge of Really Doing Something is a person I'd happily leave my own children with, and suspect this is going to be the case with any set up anywhere.

What is the position? I know they are voluntary to the school, and that I would have felt honoured/relieved/grateful if the lady who ran them in 2003 at my ex-school had the slightest thing to do with my children's education ever. I'd name her but it's probably against the rules.
She was so pissed off with the shit she had to take here that she emigated to Australia.
