What did you have to do to go through threshold?

Morning all,

I'm currently on my second year of M6 with a good TLR for my management role but I'd like to go through threshold. I get the impression the requirements for moving onto UPS vary from school to school - e.g. some heads will simply nod you through but others make you do a vast application supported by substantial evidence.

I'd be interested to know what you had to do if you've gone through threshold. As I've only been in this role for 3 months, I don't have evidence of excellent results yet, but I'm loathe to remain on M6 for a third year...

Really depends on your school. I personally feel if your school is that way inclinded, they can turn you down the first year regardless by saying your not experienced enough. That is what happened to me, despite ofsted saying I was outstanding, lots of evidence of CPD for other staff, TLR for role with my subject, working with primary schools....

Oh letter to govs though. I do a lot extra anyway. I'm late doing it due to maternity break etc. in the early days it was s hassle I think

I meant to add we had to submit a form and have to write all our evidence down about why we met the criteria.

I had to fill a massive lever arched ring binder with evidence that I met all the teacher standards. It was a ballache and nearly put me off doing it, which I suppose was the point. I don't think they even looked at it, they knew who they wanted to put through anyway.

Achieved targets in two previous annual performance management reviews which were from the Teacher Standards - See Page 24 onwards.

Had been asked why I hadn't applied for it. (I was considering it, but was a bit confused about dates.) So I handed in some paperwork with notes on how I met each standard (didn't need to, but thought it would be better than nothing)...head nodded. Done and dusted. Same with my colleague.

DH had to fill in a whole load of paperwork and hand in a massive folder. Hmm He was a bit envious that mine was so easy. He's at a different school, though.

Thank you everyone, this is really helpful, and confirms what I thought about vastly different processes. I'm a bit worried as I don't have evidence from this school yet to meet all standards, as I've only been there for 3 months. But I really don't want to sit on m6 for another whole year. Does anyone know if you can only apply at certain times for the year?

I'm due to go through threshold next year. Our head will give it as long as you are making a contribution to the whole school/beyond your classroom. I'm leading the school in a national award which I think in her eyes will qualify me. Also I think we have to pass two years appraisal with no blips.

A successful PM cycle, with one whole- school target, then a two line letter to Head, who nodded.

Ours used to get nodded through with some evidence in the form of the appraisal form. Ours will now require you to undertake a research project or other whole school project linked to the school improvement priorities. It looks as if people already on upr will be expected to do the same in order to stay on upr.

We have to apply at pay review time in September - we are an academy but follow the old pay system closely.

I had to complete an application form, submit evidence of meeting the teacher standards, added in additional evidence of taking on things which were over and above my 'job' as such, plus two years PMR's and lesson observations.

I don't feel the automatic decline on first application really applies across the board. I got it first time after a year on M6 at the start of my Mat leave!

I have been on M6 for a long time. I asked last September about going through, but the requirement for two PMRs was problematic as I hadn't had a review prior to, or after returning from, maternity leave, so I had two missing. Then I had a missing bit on my PMR in autumn (not entirely my fault as it relied on being given staff meeting time, which hadn't been forthcoming). Then I was told I also needed to do a letter detailing how I met every teacher standard. So I just gave up.
I may try again in the summer hols, especially as I know I've met my objectives on my performance management. I'm not sure I'll get it though, as I've had a difficult year and I'm not sure if my Head thinks I'm good enough.

I'm on UPS2, I went through threshold both times based on the previous 2 years performance managements. Deputy Head printed out the form, I signed it.
