Too expensive?

I'm relocating, well planning on doing. I've been teaching 7 years with a couple of mat leaves in there. On m5 as I've been off for the last two years pretty much (babies born close together)

Anyway, I hear a lot of schools are struggling with their budgets and I'm worried that I'm going to be too expensive to find a normal teaching job.

Any insights?

There's no pay portability anymore, is there? The school won't have to offer you m5.

True, although most decent heads will. As chemistry I think you are in a stronger position than biology, so will probably be ok.

Given how difficult we find recruiting Chemistry specialists, I think you should be ok.

You may need to negotiate, but you are in a very strong position because you teach chemistry, so stick to your guns of wanting at least M5, and a good school will pay you on that. You'll need to negotiate during the interview, at the point where they ask you if you'd take the job if offered. At this point you would say, "yes, as long as I will be paid on at least M5".

Thanks a lot everyone for your encouragement .I'm so out of the loop with everything at the minute! Push come to shove, I'll go for a head of chemistry or something similar but I'm not sure tlrs are worth the effort

I've never had a problem on UPS. However I'm in greater London so not sure about jobs in the North. Chemistry too.

I'm on UPS and had similar concerns when I moved schools. However, I also have a tendency to go for schools, which need a little bit of "troubleshooting" for one reason or other. I rarely walk into "easy" jobs, but I haven't had to take a pay cut, yet.
I'm primary, although I wouldn't imagine secondary chemistry being impossible to get, either. Give it a go and make sure they can see that you're worth every penny.
