Hi all,

Any help appreciated..

I have an important observation next Friday and I'm doing literacy. The topic is new 'pirates' and for my literacy I was thinking of introducing 'pirate Pete' and his treasure chest earlier in the week then on Friday (adult input) he's vanished but in its place is a message in a bottle to say he's got stuck on an island and needs help.

That's my initial idea but it's lacking substance for now any suggestions??
Also for my focused adult led activity what can the children do to help? I was thinking message in a bottle back but that's a bit boring.

Also does anyone know any good pirate stories?

Grateful for any suggestions.

I did this recently and it went really well. We read the night pirates (which is fab)! Then we got a letter from the girl pirates saying they needed our help to set sail. Ii took photos around nursery and stuck them on 3 maps and drew like a trail on the maps to follow. I wrote words like above/among/beside as clues on the maps so they had to look for gold doubloons (off Amazon) above the sand pit/among the dressing up clothes etc. we split into 3 groups and followed the maps (which were all different) to find 6 coins. Then they came to x marks the spot where there was instructions for each group. Group 1 had to use construction toys to build a boat for the Pirates, group 2 had to sequence pictures from the story (only nursery but reception age could maybe add captions/thought bubbles) Group 3 counted out gold and silver balls to decorate biscuits for the girl pirates tea.
Gosh that was long!! Hope it helps!

Thanks that's really helpful I like the idea of following the map trail then having a challenge at the end. That's where my differentiation could come in.

Any other book suggestions or just general ideas appreciated
