I am happy in my job but feel I should climb the ladder. Is it worth the extra work, status and bit more money to become a deputy?

I know but I'd be very grateful for some advice from people who've done it. Thank you.

A con
Deputies don't always get a reduced teaching timetable - in our primary the deputy occasionally gets extra time out but not on a regular basis. Also, when the Head's away he is expected to step up but still teach (and deal with the day to day issues of being a Head)- it may be financial but years ago the deputy would come out of the classroom when covering and a supply would be brought in.
