I am currently on UPS1. I think I meet all the criteria for UPS 3. An I right in thinking I could now apply to go through? Or does it not work like that?

It's at the discretion of your HT. You'll need to prove what you're doing that has an impact across the whole school. If you can make a sufficiently strong case that you're worth it, and if the HT has the money available (ha ha), then my understanding is that your HT can put you up as much as they choose.

In principle, yes. Most schools assess in line with their performance management schedule. Bear in mind it's at the HT's discretion though, and if the money isn't there to pay you then it won't be an option.

This was the carrot with the deconstructed wage deal, that got rid of portable pay levels. Oh yes, you can be paid higher, and jump gleefully up the pay scale. It is possible. But I've yet to hear of a single teacher who managed it, through their current school, or through moving schools.

I've heard of many many teachers who have had their pay level dropped, or who have had to except a wage cut to move schools.

Try it and see, but I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Bursar here and I've seen it happen this very week......much to my disapproval Wink

Actually, it was the right thing for the school and IMO was exactly who the new pay arrangements should work. Excellent teacher we need to retain doing above and beyond, being properly paid. I can't get excited about "average" teachers being stuck on their pay point, that's how it should be and how it works in every other industry I've ever worked in.
