National Testing at KS3

There's a few kids in my form class that are on the poverty line. National Testing starts next week and I want to make sure they've got their stuff. I've given them pens, pencils, rubber and ruler. I know they need compass, protractor too? What about calculator? Does it have to be the one that has all the other functions or can it be basic?

Off out to get them now. Would hate to get wrong ones.

Hmm I would have thought that your school has these resources and your don't need to go out and buy them (and I'm saying that as someone, who buys a heck of a lot for school). Check your Maths resource room?

We have LOTS of kids from poor families, so our resources are already stretched and our budget has been cut terribly already. I'd sooner go out and get these few items.

Not sure if calc is basic one though or the more advanced one.

National Testing at KS3? not sure what you mean. There are only internal exams at KS3 so it would depend on what tests the maths dept had set as to whether they need a scientific calculator.

Dd is in Yr 8 & has a scientific calculator for maths lessons.

Ds is year 6 & has a normal calculator.

Ideally, they would need a scientific calculator. It would be worth trying to get the same type that they presumably currently borrow from the maths dept during lessons. Otherwise they may not know how to use it.

There aren't any national tests at Ks3. For their maths exam they will need a pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, protractor, pair of compasses and a scientific calculator.

However, the maths department probably has a stock of these that they will lend out if necessary.

Pupil premium money should also be spent on equipment for these students if they need it.
