......not a teacher.

I want to work 8.30-1pm, 5 days a week from September.

Currently have an Interim Executive HT and want to make sure everything is above board and legal.

What should be my first move? Smile

Do you belong to a union? They should be able to advise you.

How would you propose the rest of your job be covered?

Are there other TAs working a similar pattern in other classes/year groups?

As far as I know, the school does not have to agree to you going part time, but they do have to consider your request.

I was going to suggest consulting your Union too.

In general terms, requests are considered in a much more positive light, if you can suggest a solution to the problems it will create - no, you don't have to, but it does go down well Smile

So.... where do you think they will find someone to cover 1 - 3.30 each day? (If you are FT in a class)
Would you consider doing a "better" split, to make it easier for them to find a job-share?
Or is there a role you could see that doesn't need someone to do the hours you don't want to?

and so forth.....

Good luck. It's great working PT.

Thanks for the comments. Smile

School is imploding and lots of people are leaving. Am currently in ks1 looking to go back to ks2.

People currently doing all manner of hours, job shares, this n that, whatever they want. Am sure Superhead will want to narrow it all down but am sure there must be some positions that are PT and a lunch cover.

Might mention work life balance.......Smile

At our school lots of TA's only work mornings, to provide extra cover for when the children are doing Maths & Literacy. Would this work in your school.
Depending on your management, I think mentioning saving money, whilst keeping an experienced TA , might be better than mentioning work life balance.

As far as I know there is fairly new guidance that says all staff (no just teachers) have the right to request flexible working. Your Head should be able to give you the form on purpose to make the application.

As with teachers' requests I think you have to demonstrate how the request could be met without detriment to the school.

Working 2.5 days (eg. Monday - wed midday) would be preferable re finding someone else to do the rest of the hours.
