I've just seen this promise from Labour in the BBC's manifesto guide.

bbc

Any guesses how that will work or be funded?! I notice it doesn't say 'free childcare' just 'guaranteed childcare'.

Anyone wondering if the plan is for it to take place in primary schools? By...?

Bit crap of the BBC to list childcare under 'education'

They didn't manage to set this up in the 'rich' years of the early 00s. No idea how it can be afforded now.

Why wasn't this mentioned before now. Seems they are all about to offer carrots to sway the electorate. It won't be swaying me. And clever not saying whether it would be free or not.

I don't trust any of them, tbh.

Isn't this just a reiteration of the old 'wrap around care' that every Primary school is supposed to provide... who was it that touted it in the beginning...Old labour? I know that not all do, but many schools have found that it's in their interest to provide it, either themselves, or through a private priovider on their premises. My kids Primary did 7.30-6.00 with breakfast club and after school club, and I will always be eternally grateful, especially the 7.30 start as if meant I,as a teacher, could get to my school in time. I doubt very much if it's free, because that would mean funding issues when cuts are already being made.
