I teach Art. As I got the part time job my HT says that he coudl send me on CELTA course - EAL. Is there any particular benefit in doing this? This owuld give me additional qualifications - but I am specialist in Art

I suppose it would be of benefit if any of your pupils were EAL?
Also it would set you up to teach English overseas if you ever feel like doing that.

I've got a Celta qualification and loved doing it. However I'm not a trained teacher already so can't comment on whether the additional skills would be beneficial to you or not.
Have you looked at the course content? You'll probably find parts of it a doddle but you do need a good grasp of grammar. Don't assume that you can teach EAL or ESOL simply because English is your first language.

CELTA is a brilliant qualification and if your HT is willing to fund it go for it! However, it is a very intense course, very hard work.

It is a four week course costing £1200 plus. Do it if you ever think you will do it otherwise let him train someone lose.

It can also be done part time over a longer period - far more likely this is what the HT will expect - 2 evenings a weeks and some Saturdays.

Just make sure it is Celta or Trinity certificate. Don't go with a cheaper alternative as the qualification may not be recognised. You also need practical classroom experience.
