Normally Tory voting, but teaching under the current administration has been tough! Don't see Labour offering anything better. Do I just spoil the ballot?!

Vote Conservative. They announced today they are cracking down on tax evading umbrella companies ripping off supply teachers. Also extending Free Schools which will vastly improve state education.

Labour will halt plans to decouple AS and A-levels. Or at least they say they will.

Really?!

I haven't had a pay rise for 5 years, have to pay more into my pension and worklonger to get less. I value the teaching qualifications I have and I apply my knowledge in the classroom. I am happy to have the support of the local authority behind me. I'd die before I voted Conservative, as the Tories have done nothing at all to help me, my family or any teacher outside of the private sector.

The only realistic outcomes are Labour or conservative. The financial crash happened under Labour, and the UK suffered worse than many other countries because Gordon Brown bribed voters by borrowing and spending, that then led to the reckoning - no such thing as a free lunch. HY private sector suffered worse, with redundancies and wage cuts, just as badly, but are now coming out of it. No way can Labour be trusted to run the country - days of pay rises based on time-served rather than merit long past. Similarly everyone suffering form pensions crisis, not just teachers. (pension funds also raided by Gordon Brown). Do you really think Labour can conjure up 'free money' to take us back to the ;good old days?' If you want to go back in time -you could always vote UKIP Grin

The question was about teaching, Roehampton.

Temporaryanonymity · 20/03/2015 07:29

A public sector worker voting Tory is akin to a turkey voting for Christmas.

noblegiraffe · 20/03/2015 07:32

If you vote Tory they might reinstate Gove.

runlikeagirl · 20/03/2015 14:04

I've never met a Tory voting teacher. I've been teaching 10 years, and the last 4 years have been horrendous. The Tories have destroyed the education sector. It's not about money, but about trusting teachers and staff, understanding what actually helps students achieve.

If they get in again, I may even consider removing my own children from the education system as it will only get worse.

breward · 20/03/2015 17:08

I was one. I have always voted Conservative. I have been teaching 21 years and last year left an outstanding state school because I grew hate teaching and the constant scrutiny and 'surveillance.' I now teach at a wonderful private school which allows you to teach and enjoy teaching. Not a single lesson observation or book scrutiny since I started back in Sept. I am actually trusted to teach and the children are thriving with a happy and enthusiastic teacher... not a knackered and fed up one!
I will be voting labour for the first time. I don't see they will offer anything different, but it is my protest.

echt · 20/03/2015 20:07

Nothing will change to lighten the burden on teachers. Governments have become so used to the extraordinary levels of surveillance/scrutiny and accountability that they don't know how or what to let go of. I don't think they want to, either.
