Has anyone ever been too ill for inspection?

I feel awful. Both physically as I'm feeling so ill. And mentally as I'm really concerned that I won't be better in time for our inspection.

Has this happened before to anyone. Its throat and sickness related so isn't something I could just work through. I'm so hoping that I feel a million times better this weekend. Even then it'll be difficult. Sad

Are you due an inspection any day now?
I've never known anyone be off sick but I can't see being unwell for an inspection going down very well at all with my head Hmm
You're probably exhausted and that's partly why you're ill. I'd suggest having a quiet weekend and doing the bare minimum to give yourself a break and your body a chance to recover .

Due Monday and can't do very much other than drink water at the moment. I'm in a huge amount of pain speaking.
Its so frustrating as I've worked really hard for it!

(This was over ten years ago so probably not relevant but) I had a colleague who had the flu the same week Ofsted turned up (in teh days when you had 8 weeks notice and they were in for a week). He had a week's supply and the inspectors didn't go into the supply teacher's lessons.

We had a couple of people who were off when ofsted were in a couple of years ago. All of them got doctors notes because they were worried about how it would look. If you've been ill this week and are better by Monday you should probably be seeing a doctor anyway. The inspectors can go into supply/cover lessons to see behavior/ work set for/by absent teachers.

PS I hope you feel better soon. It's horrible feel so ill and there's important things that are happening.

Thank you!
I'm having a horrendous bout of tonsilitis with a few complications. I have a history of it and am hoping to have them out sooner than later.
I've now been given more antibiotics but feel so ill it really would be a miraculous recovery for Monday. My dr has been involved every arduous step of this bout so its all well documented and they have said that if I'm not right I have to go back for a paper as going in too soon would not be good for my health at all.
It's just the guilt! And the frustration! I know I can't help being ill but I've put all the work in and now will feel like people will be looking at me in a 'alright for some' way.
I'll just have to see how I'm feeling.

Happened to me last year - pneumonia. Forgive me for asking this as I may well be out of date. But I thought that Ofsted didn't give a weekend's notice anymore. That schools would get the call on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday for an inspection to start the following day. So no Monday inspections iyswim. Has this changed?

Howaboutthisone · 14/03/2015 11:38

Sorry- I'm in Wales so its estyn and we get 3 weeks notice at the moment and then the inspection runs mon-thurs / fri.

I went home ill on a Monday ( was actually sent home as I was crying with pain!) and the school arranged for my usual cover teacher to come for in the following day. Monday afternoon we were informed OFSTED were coming! There was no way I could go in Tuesday but the cover teacher was fine with OFSTED until SHE went ill on Monday night!! We called in a second supply teacher for Tuesday ( who was observed!) and a different one for Wednesday-although I went in and taught one lesson ( which was also observed) I couldn't manage any more than that!!

Howaboutthisone · 14/03/2015 12:34

That sounds awful!
The school have got great cover teacher we've used before on standby. I'm going to send all my stuff to her in case.

Happened to me just before Christmas. Had pneumonia. Even though I could self-certify, the dr said he'd write a note anyway and that I absolutely should NOT go in (didn't need to in the end as Head OK about it - job-share partner covered me). Everything was all set up and good-to-go anyway, as in planning/marking/classroom environment etc..)

Can't be helped. Hope you feel better soon.

Howaboutthisone · 15/03/2015 20:23

Thank you for that. Everyone's been really good to be fair. I just feel terrible to not be there like everyone else. It can't be helped though, I know. I wouldn't be doing anyone any favours going in like this.

My HoD was on long term sick when Oftsed came in (over a year ago now). She was texting on and off all day to find out how it went. They didn't observe any of the cover lessons and didn't ask to see her books. School got good, department was outstanding.

I hope you've stayed at home today if you're still ill and are feeling much better soon.

Howaboutthisone · 16/03/2015 21:18

I have. I went back to the dr this morning and am off for the rest of the week. I feel awful but know that it's the right thing to do.

I'm now trying to concentrate on getting well!

Thank you!
