How is your PPA covered?

Just curious.

Especially at primary level. How is your PPA time covered?

Who by?
What work is done by the class in that time, and who plans it?

I do PPA cover. The teachers provides plans and I prepare materials, resources and adapt the plan as necessary. I mark the work with 'next step assessment and I annotate the plans for the teacher.
I cover whatever the teacher wants, usually it's set for a term at a time in advance.
Currently it's Humanities, Maths, Extended Writing, Science, SPAG, ICT and all the little bits of guided reading, handwriting, phonics...

Sports coaches paid for with the Government PE funding.

My PPA is covered by a regular supply.
He will only teach two subjects, one being PE, and does not mark books. The kids' behaviour with him is appalling, which is frustrating as they're a difficult bunch but I've worked to get them where they are.
Management won't speak to him or ask a different supply as "he brings something different to the school."
ie. He is male.

I do PPA, TLR and NQT time. They plan and prepare, I rock up, teach, mark, feed back and run! Grin
It does help that I've been at the school for years and taught all the children in Reception, so expectations are high. I'm given a variety of things to do, depending on the day and year group. Year R always give me the same thing, Year 1 and 2 changes a lot depending on their enquiry.

Wow that sounds dreadful CtrlAlt

I also cover PPA. I'm employed as a HLTA for the PPA cover time. I teach computing to the classes I cover for most of the session; the remaining bit is generally playtime, assembly, library and/or story before home time. I plan and assess for the classes I teach. I feedback on their computing levels to the class teacher. I'm also the computing curriculum/subject leader and esafety coordinator.

It has been done by a HLTA who has had all the work planned, resourced etc and they haven't marked it or stuck in books ir even done it all tbh.

Then done by a supply who have been fab who have marked and stuck in books and been amazing to supply teachers who have not been in school again.

Now supply is currently by the DHT who is doing PE and plans and teaches it and also do the phonics on that day which is already planned. He has also said that he will do that section of the reports at the end if the year as he will always do my ppa and in his words 'PE ' has no marking.

I cover ppa in two schools. Teachers tell.me the subjects they want me to do and topics then I plan, prepare, Trac, Mark, assess and do report comments..

hels71 · 05/03/2015 18:48

Trac????? Teach!

phlebasconsidered · 05/03/2015 22:18

I am a ppa teacher. I cover three full days in two years. I plan, prepare and Mark everything. We agree in advance what unit or block I will cover. I have my own books in each class and give targets/ input data like everyone else. I usually cover the foundation that plays to my strengths, and likewise in maths and literacy. Everyone is usually happy to hand the poetry unit over!

We have supply covering. Teachers plan and supply delivers and marks. Teachers also have an hour and a half of PE time, taught be a PE coach. I'm the DHTS and I cover two classes' PPA. I plan, teach, Mark, assess and write the end of year report.
