What's the job situation currently like in your school/area

I have just looked at the local council recruitment website for my area and there are so many jobs! I know now is the time that jobs begin to be advertised for September, but it really is noticeable.

Usually at this time of year there is a job or two for a spattering of local schools, often FS teacher needed at XXX Infants or Y3/4 teacher needed at XXX Junior School -enough for me to think, -oooh, I wonder if that's x who's leaving.

At the moment-there are loads and loads of local schools requiring 'teachers' in the plural!

Most of them say things like XXX Infant School require teachers for FS and KS1 and KS2 for September, or XXX Primary requires teachers for FS, KS1 and KS2.

I have never seen so many jobs advertised! Is it like this everywhere?

The school I work at has just put out an ad for "requires teachers for FS, KS1 and KS2" as the school is expanding and the odd teacher is leaving for various reasons ie relocation, but yes there are quite a few long term supply teachers where they couldn't get people to fill the job

Same here - approx 75 jobs on offer at all levels. Should be about 15 at this time of year.

Lots here too but not much in my subject (MFL) yet .
Many, many Maths jobs. And many Headteacher posts too.

My council is known for 'not much movement' and when there is, it is a case of if the face fits (usually parent who has been volunteering or NQT who has done their final TP there).
This year there has been loads of jobs but noticeably they indicate the pay scale. Always MPS and sometimes MPS 1-3. Never UPS unless it involves a core subject leadership which means I am screwed unless I want to lead maths, English or science.
It seems most schools don't want to pay UPS to 'just class teachers' amd see it as a means to pay only those on SLT.
Last year we lost four members of staff - all UPS. One didn't enjoy the path the school was taking (bullying of certain members of staff) one put on capabilities and two were part time (head hates part timers) and were hounded out by given RI and Inadequate after years of being good and outstanding. Since then cheap staff have been employed. Feel sorry for them. With the targets all of us are given, no way anyone will move up the pay spine. I am expecting a lot of movement in teaching but movement out not to other teaching jobs. Young staff will soon realise they are being exploited and cannot maintain their career on the same pays spine year after year.
