I am in a quandary.....

I have two career choices....
Remain in my part time role, largely mornings, managing and paid on ups3. Stressful role with lots of pressure

Or.... Move to ppa cover, still part time but largely afternoons, more after school childcare required and move down to m6 so therefore take home less?

Basically choices are..... Less stress, less money and less time with children

Or.... Stay stressed at work but stay as skint as currently am and still be able to pick up 3/4 times a week!?!?

How old are your DC?
Will it make it difficult to get back up to a higher wage/level?

I went from part-time DH to part-time specialist teacher when my DC were tiny. It was not a huge drop in salary and the hours were the same on paper, but in reality the specialist teacher job was hugely less stressful and less time working after/before school IYSWIM.
I am now a full-time specialist teacher and do not regret giving up being a DH for one minuteWink

Thank you!
Chikdren are 4 and 7. The financial side I think I may be able to swallow up but it will be tight, and money isn't great at the moment either so it seems crazy to take a pay cut!

Also, I'm worried about all the after school club time the children will have. I feel I may as well be full time class teavhing if they are in after school club four times as week. Part time should mean I'll see them more??

I really don't know!! How do you get to be a specialist teacher? Maybe ppa cover is a bit of a step down which is not good career wise??

I think that the change in hours could result in more stress and guilt if you have to leave them in after-school care more (never mind the money!)

PPA cover is usually a step down - fine if you don't want to get back on the career ladder, OK briefly but you would be looking to do it for a few years? I was 11 years part-time (3 as DH then 8 in the specialist teacher role)

I was lucky to hear of a job in a specialist setting which appealed to me and which I had the right kind of experience for - could you put your feelers out for that kind of thing? Maybe visit other settings in your "time off" in an afternoon? Are you Primary?

Will you be staying in the same school? If so, how much of your current role could you leave behind? I ask because what you don't want is to take a drop in salary, have to put the children into childcare etc and then end up still having people come to you with their problems so you end up dealing with just as much shit as you do now!
