Leaving teaching after nqt year what could I do?

I'm considering leaving teaching after my NQT year but will be part way through my masters so don't want to embark on another career straight away, but do something else for a year

What could I use my teaching/education for besides being s TA?

Wasn't it ex-soldiers then unqualified teachers.

Neither seem to be doing a cracking job at solving the crisis.

Perhaps they should just try to retain some of the teachers they've already got.

Be careful going for The. A. jobs if you are a qualified teacher, as they often take advantage. I used to be left doing most of the class management, while the teacher worked 1:1 and heard readers out of the classroom.Confused Confused

T.A.

thousands of ex teachers are competing for TA jobs. They are now many times harder to get than teaching jobs, round here.

I left after nqt year and went into adult ed in industry. Much less paperwork, better behaviour and twice the pay.

I think you sound spot on roll. Sad

Education is being broken and I am scared for my poor DS (6) with another decade of school in front of him yet.

I'm just qualified and have only been teaching 5 weeks and hate it (not the teaching but all the admin extras) it's really getting me down and I'm also considering leaving the profession forever. It's a real tough call because I haven't even started my induction yet and haven't got another job to go into or a clue what else I could do.

So I am actually the op and I'm still teaching but loving it!
My school had a change of slt and it's a lovely place :) I'm still working hard but it's manageable

Watching with interest. How does one go about getting into supply work?

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 17/11/2015 19:39

I was on my LA's books for 18 months and heard nothing (they don't use agencies either).

Another suggestion that you find out about the demand for supply teachers in your area!

DH took a few months out of teaching after a majorly stressful and demoralising NQT year (and missing out on large chunks of dc3's first year), missed it tons, and ventured back in to it carefully on supply, and loves it. It's the best of both worlds, the best bits of teaching and a real family life! The money isn't fab but it doesn't matter to us, we get by and everyone is happy. I suggest you assume the start of each term can be quiet so you can budget for it, then if you get called in it's a bonus! It has restored his self confidence, made him a 'master' of improvised lessons and behaviour management Grin, and allowed him to be there for the dc's childhood, not stuck in a school from 7.30am til 9pm every day, which is what was expected in his first school.

Good luck!
